John Schanz, President, Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of MediaCenters, brings over 15 years of experience in network architecture development, implementation, integration, and operations. Mr. Schanz's network infrastructure experience enables the grassroots perspective of the needs to providing world-class Internet infrastructure services. Before co-founding MediaCenters, Mr. Schanz held the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer positions for Transaction Network Services (TNS--a PSINet company). He was responsible for the overall day-to-day operations including: business unit performance, engineering, development, system integration, operations, corporate MIS, and human resources functions. Mr. Schanz also held the positions of Senior Vice President and General Manager for TNS' financial services division before being promoted to COO.

Prior to TNS, a PSINet company, he was the director of data engineering for Sprint Corporation. His management role included overall design, engineering, and implementation of Sprint's public data networks. As director of data engineering, he also provided strategic planning, design, and operations support for Sprint's largest customers. Since beginning his career at General Electric (GE) as a supervisor of data network design and operations, Mr. Schanz has experience ranging from engineering and new business unit creation, to insightful executive level management. From data network engineering to the expansion of network infrastructures and public data networks for Fortune 500 companies, Mr. Schanz is well prepared to deploy cutting edge broadband technology and to implement best-of-breed infrastructure services.

He holds a B.E. in electrical engineering from Manhattan College School of Engineering and completed GE's Information Systems Management Program.

Mr. Schanz is responsible for guiding the vision of MediaCenters as the world-class Internet services infrastructure provider.


Jim Greenberg, Chief Technology Officer and co-founder of MediaCenters, brings over19 years of creating network architectures and fulfilling the dynamic needs of infrastructure services. Prior to MediaCenters, Mr. Greenberg was the co-founder and chief network officer of Rhythms NetConnections, Inc., the nation's most innovative DSL CLEC (digital subscriber line competitive local exchange carrier). He was responsible for the Rhythms national network architecture, engineering, product development, operations, field services, regulatory management, and administrative back office/IT superstructures that were the key delivery mechanisms supporting Rhythms leadership and explosive growth.

Prior to Rhythms, Mr. Greenberg held several executive positions at Sprint where he was an early pioneer of the first U.S. national Internet backbone. He is also credited for creating the first public ATM (asynchronous transfer mode) and frame relay networks for Sprint business customers. Besides leading Sprint's systems development, engineering, and service centers organizations, Mr. Greenberg was responsible for the development and construction of the America Online data network.

He holds a B.S. in computer science from the University of Maryland, graduating Summa Cum Laude, and also holds a M.S. in business from the University of Maryland.

Mr. Greenberg is responsible for the visionary architecture behind MediaCenters' optically switched network and broadband software connectivity infrastructure as well as its services.


John Walecka is a founding partner of Redpoint Ventures. Prior to founding Redpoint, John was a general partner with Brentwood Venture Capital, a firm he joined in 1984.

John currently focuses on the core infrastructure and application services areas revolving around the next generation broadband Internet. John is involved in major platform companies such as: Avici Networks, TransMedia Communications (acquired by Cisco), Optimight Communications, Lightera Networks (acquired by Ciena), Promatory Communications (acquired by Nortel), Netro (NTRO), Rapid5 Networks and Ultraband Fiber Optics. He is also working with enabling semiconductor products companies including StratumOne (acquired by Cisco), MultiLink Communications, Multilink Technology, and Internet Machines. In the services, software and commerce areas, John has led investments in Rhythms NetConnections (RTHM), HelloBrain.com, Nuasis, Syndeo, StreamSearch.com, MediaCenters.com, Nexgenix and The Extraprise Group.

John also serves as Director of the Western Association of Venture Capitalists (WAVC) and is a Director of the Stanford Business School Venture Capital Trust. Prior to joining Brentwood, John worked at Hewlett Packard and the Stanford University Smart Product Design Laboratory.

John received a B.S. and an M.S. in Engineering from Stanford University and an M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.


Tom Dyal is a founding partner of Redpoint Ventures. Prior to founding Redpoint, Tom was a general partner with IVP, a firm he joined in 1997.

Tom focuses on investments in the communications area, including Internet infrastructure, services and communications components. He currently serves on the Boards of Directors or led investments in Alidian Networks, Chip2Chip, Cidera, Longitude Systems, MediaCenters.com, Panthera Networks, Santera Systems, StorageWay, TeraOptic Networks and Vivace Networks. Previously, Tom was a director or actively involved in Growth Networks (acquired by Cisco Systems), Netcore Systems (acquired by Tellabs), Shasta Networks (acquired by Nortel Networks) and StratumOne Communications (acquired by Cisco Systems).

Tom has nine years of experience in operating roles in data communications and networking. Prior to joining IVP, he spent five years in product management at Bay Networks, responsible for its network management products. Prior to joining Bay Networks (SynOptics) in 1992, Tom spent four years with AT&T Bell Laboratories, where he held system engineering and management positions in the areas of wide-area networking products and services.

Tom holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.
